The role insulation plays in your house attic…

Did you know 9 out of 10 homes in the U.S. are under-insulated in the house attic?

Energy.gov estimates that most older homes are under-insulated in the house attic.  If your home is older than 15 years, odds are your insulation may be needing an upgrade.  Why do you need to insulate your house?  The higher your insulation R-value is the more comfort and energy efficient your home can be.

The role proper insulated attic plays in your home

Many people like to think that hot air travels upwards.  The truth is that heat travels towards cold, making insulation and sealing a crucial part of energy efficiency.  During the hot Texas days, most of the heat from the outside likes to get into your home through the attic and other gaps.  Insulation acts as a retarder to that heat, escaping or coming in.

What can I do to make sure my energy consumption is low?

This is a loaded question, with many ways to answer it.  First, see if your local utility company offers energy assessments.  Most will offer a free assessment, and even provide free products.  San Antonio’s CPS utility company offers anything from free LED bulbs, to thermostats, and rebates for Insulation!

If you need insulation, your utility company should be able to tell you how much you need.  If you don’t want to wait, call your trusted Insulation contractor to come and take a look for you.

What next?

Most insulation contractors will charge anywhere from $0.55 to $1.20 per sqft to install insulation.  It all depends on how much is your existing, quality of work, and difficulty of job.  We at Entropy Insulation will fill out any rebate paperwork for you if eligible for rebate.  Don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions about making your home energy efficient.
